Essential Question for Today

by on August 24, 2012

What is the value of having a model when creating a 3D sculpture?

Artists throughout history have used some type of modeling as the first step in creating a work of art. We can call it a rough draft, a sketch, a model posing for a painter, an architect drawing a blueprint, a sculptor modeling in clay before making molds to cast metal, etc. The value of a model is proven in the final product.

So in our case, we would like to make a model with construction paper so that we can take our time trying out different ways to arrange shapes to create a sculpture. It will save you time and effort when it comes with working with the clay. Clay is soft and pliable, and dries quickly. So you need to be prepared to work quickly with the clay. The model will allow you to do that.
